Lumen Associates is a small Canadian-based company working to develop a new device for the application of Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation (UBI) therapy. Canadian and International patent applications have been filed, and the SP-1 project is ready to move to testing.

The Lumen Model SP-1 UBI Device is an innovative new device for performing UBI therapy.  We believe that it will prove to be an effective form of prevention and treatment for bacterial and viral infections as well as other infectious and non-infectious conditions.

The SP-1 introduces a unique method for conducting the therapy: with a patent-pending combination of an Ultraviolet-transparent plastic syringe, specially-shaped exposure chamber, and novel agitation system, the SP-1 is a small, compact, lightweight design that will be easily usable in any medical facility, or in the field.

What are the benefits of the Lumen concept?

Existing UBI systems require multiple time-consuming treatments, are quite costly to operate, and generate large amounts of biohazard waste. The Lumen concept is intended to require only one or two treatments of a few minutes each, uses disposable materials to reduce costs, and greatly reduces the production of biohazard waste. The design is well developed, and the project is ready to move to clinical trials.

The time is right for UBI.

Today, diseases are proving resistant or even immune to antibiotics. Technology has made UBI devices smaller and simpler than they were when UBI was developed in the mid-20th century. With the increase of drug-resistant diseases, concern about pandemics, and the threat of bio-terrorism, the time is right for a revival of this effective, simple, and non-pathogen-specific treatment.
